Obesity: Multicomponent Interventions to Increase Availability of Healthier Foods and Beverages in Schools

Description of Resource:
The Community Preventive Services Task Force recommends multicomponent interventions to increase availability of healthier foods and beverages in schools. This finding is based on evidence that they reduce or maintain the rate of obesity or overweight. Interventions aim to provide healthier foods and beverages that are appealing to students, limit access to less healthy foods and beverages, or both. They must include components that address foods and beverages provided in meals and snacks, sold at schools, or offered as rewards. Interventions may also apply healthy food and beverage marketing strategies.
