Registry and Surveillance in Hemoglobinopathies

Description:

A four-year pilot project was funded in 2010, to establish surveillance systems to determine the number of patients diagnosed with hemoglobinopathic diseases, including sickle cell disease, thalassemias, and hemoglobin E disease. NIH and CDC have entered into an interagency agreement to support the project; CDC has established cooperative agreements with 6 state health departments to create surveillance programs in those states (California, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania).
